Advent Day 7 – Christmas this or that – Welsh Mum of One.

Each day of December we will have a new blogger telling us this or that. Check out Day 6 if you missed it. Today is day 7 and we have Christy from Welsh Mum of One.

Hi! I’m Christy from Welsh Mum of One. I’m a parenting blogger from South Wales and I share my experiences with my American husband and my 18 month old son. I’m self-employed and juggling running a retail business and adjusting to a new family. With a love of writing, I thought starting a blog would be an ideal way both of helping other people, and creating a personal document of our lives and it helped me a lot after I was diagnosed with postnatal anxiety and depression. Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.

Real or fake tree?

We always used to have a real tree but had a fake tree for the first time last year as I was worried about having a newborn crawling around with the number of needles that fall off. We’re going to stick to our fake tree for a few years – but I’m hoping to go back to a real tree in the future.

Christmas pudding or chocolate log?

Chocolate log with a serving of ice cream! In fact, I’ll be making my chocolate log this year and I’m really looking forward to it.

Sprouts or no sprouts?

Hell no! Well.. My husband and mother love them, but my son and I hate them. So there will be some out on the dinner table but I’ll not be letting them touch my plate and I’ll be sure to look at them disdainfully.

Presents in morning or afternoon?

We do presents between ourselves in the morning, and then presents from relatives and with my mother in the afternoon.

Santa or Father Christmas?

I say Father Christmas, but my husband who is American says Santa, so we get a bit of both over here.

Ginger bread or sugar cookies?

Do I have to choose one? Sugar Cookies I think – I love decorating them.

Coloured lights or white lights?

White lights. Keeping it simple!

Angel or star on top of tree?

We have a silver star.

Hot chocolate or mulled wine?

Definitely hot chocolate – with fresh cream, marshmallows and chocolate flake in it. And maybe a cheeky shot of Baileys in there too once the baby is asleep!

How will you be celebrating Christmas?

On Christmas Eve we usually do a light buffet, we will watch a family movie and then my son opens his Christmas Eve box which will contain a new book and a new pair of pajamas. We start reading the book and get ready for bed. I put the themed Christmas bedspreads on so we’ve all got lovely clean special sheets to sleep in.
This Christmas Day is going to be quite tough for us as a relative that I’ve seen every Christmas day since I was born unfortunately passed away quite suddenly a few months ago. It’s going to be very weird adjusting my day for the first time in my life not to go to his house and spend a few hours with him, and I keep catching myself seeing things I would have bought him as a gift. This will also be our first ever Christmas without walking our dog who is currently battling liver cancer, so it’s going to feel really weird! We will just try to enjoy the day with my mum and video chatting with all our American relatives. Just spending the time appreciating the family we have and making each other happy.
On Boxing Day we go out to the local Winter Wonderland which has an ice skating rink and rides, and then we eat turkey sandwiches for tea!
