Whether your breastfeeding journey is just beginning or 10 years in we all have different experiences. In this series I will be sharing journeys and experiences from a range of people who have breastfed or are currently breastfeeding their littles.
Catherines experience with her son.
Was / has your breastfeeding experience been positive? Explain your feeding journey.
It is positive. It’s challenging at times but I’m proud I’ve managed to overcome any problems and keep feeding. It’s not easy but it does get easier as they get older.
How long did you breastfeed for? Did you plan on feeding that long?
Currently my son is 14 months. Aimed for 6 months initially then 12 months. After the first 8 weeks it became a breeze and so much easier.
Did you have support from health professionals?
Did you have support / help from family/ partner / friends?
My mum helped when I was engorged to help me ease the pain during the first 3 days. I was so tired to think. My mum was googling to help. My sister breastfed her youngest for a year and helped me too.
What was the best breastfeeding advice you were given?
Never give up on a bad day… see how you feel the next day. If still the same then you know. I had bad days and said I’m stopping them by the next day I was fine.
What is something you wish you were told about breastfeeding before you began?
Understanding cluster feeding. That I am producing enough & babies belly’s are small so will feed lots. This is not an indication of lack of supply.
Did / have you ever experience negative comments whilst feeding? Was you worried you would before you started?
None. I feed in public all the time.
What was your favourite thing about breastfeeding your baby?
Comfort, closeness. Easiness during the night feeds.
What kept you going on the hard days/ nights?
My husband to say I’m doing amazing and I can do it. I’ve cried lots but been worth it
Thank you so much to Cat for taking part, if you would like to take part then please email me email@example.com. Breastfeeding for a month or decade, your journey counts and we’d love to hear from you.
