Before I had Pops I decided that every birthday and Christmas I wanted to encourage her to donate some of her toys to charity or give them away to someone less fortunate. I haven’t really stuck to that yet so when I saw that our playgroup were doing the Christmas child appeal I knew it was something I wanted us to do – mainly me because she’s a bit young to understand.
If you’ve not heard of Christmas child before its basically where you pack up a shoe box with things (toys, colouring, toothbrush etc). It gets sent to a child that wouldn’t have got a gift that Christmas. I actually did this myself when I was in school but never really appreciated what kind of effect it had.

I recently watched a video from the Facebook page, it showed kids from a previous year opening the gifts they were sent and it is the most beautiful thing, the joy on their faces for things we take for granted is so humbling.
If you want to find out more and send your own box head over to Samaritans Purse. You don’t need to spend a lot to make it special, you could even put things your kids were bought that have never been used, Let someone get joy out of them rather than just sitting around still in the packet.
What’s inside our box;
2 Toothbrushes
Toothpaste
Flannel
Stickers
Colouring book
Pencils and crayons
Teddy bear
Surprise eggs
Hair bows
(Taking our box to the drop off point)
Today was the last day this year to send so if you didn’t get round to sending one this year, don’t worry… There’s always next year!
Until the next post,
Are and Pops.
