Disney on Ice – 100 year celebration.

The Disney on Ice 100 Year Celebration show starts of with a High School Musical style performance (not Zac Efron unfortunately for me) who sing about being fit to dance and warming up to go with their new FIT TO DANCE programme – they then introduce Minnie and Mickey Mouse and all sang and danced the mouse bounce. Pops enjoyed that and got her arms straight up!

Donald and Goofy (I’m a little in love with Goofy at the moment) come on and talk about making films which leads us nicely onto the first ‘story’ –

Jiminy Cricket appears (out of nowhere it seemed) and the blue fairy figure skated her way through when you wish upon a star. Pinocchio turns into a real boy and starts singing ‘I’ve got no strings’ I couldn’t believe how good the set was and watching all the toys come to life was amazing – plus there was a man on a unicycle, on ice!!!

The next story was Finding Nemo, I absolutely loved how the cast played the characters – it was all really fast and skittish (that doesn’t sound good haha it really was) to show that they were swimming. We saw Nemo (before he goes missing), Marlin and Dory and along the adventure to find Nemo we got to see Crush and Squirt. Having a giant turtle slide out onto the ice was such a good surprise.

We moved on from that to Beauty and the Beast (I would say one of my favourite parts of the whole show) we sing along with Belle, get to see Lumiere, Cogsworth and Babette then see the Beast getting angry after finding Belle in the west wing. Pops loves Gaston so I was glad to see him make an appearance for her. The Beast turns into the Prince and he and Belle sing and dance together to ‘Tale as Old as Time’

Between story’s we got to see Goofy and Donald and sometimes Minnie and Mickey to keep the story telling / film making bit going.

Then onto a land far far away and under the sea – two by two the princes and princess’ come on accompanied with music from their films.

I was a little upset they didn’t get more time as individual stories but we then moved onto a story of 2 sisters. Frozen!

This was definitely the longest part of the show. They played through the whole story from Elsa locked in her room to Anna sacrificing herself for Elsa.

Throughout the section there was snow, magic, singing and dancing.

Olaf singing summer time was amazing, he was joined by bees and flowers and it was so fun to watch. The humour came through too which was great.

Aladdin and Abu find themselves a lamp (or should I say stole themselves one – cheeky Abu) the genie pops out and breaks into song and is joined by 20 more genies. It was a pretty impressive sight – it took me back to being a kid (I used to love playing Aladdin on mega drive – especially the genie level!)

I was really impressed with Toy Story. Plastic soldiers investigating a present which opens up to find Buzz Lightyear. He and Woody then sing You’ve Got a Friend in me. They were then joined by Jessie, I won’t lie – I wish Bullseye was there too!

Before we went to the show we popped to the Disney store and let Pops choose a doll and she chose Mulan – We’ve watched the videos of the songs but never the film so was really surprised she chose her and imagine our surprise to see Mulan come out.

Pops was so excited she got her doll out and tried to show Mulan. We got to hear ‘Reflection’ and then ‘Get Down to Business’ which is probably up there with one of my favourite Disney songs. I really enjoyed the Mulan part, we all did!

The Mulan story was made even more special by the massive Chinese dragon that entered – such a site to see and really brought the ice to life. Everyone seemed impressed!

Next up was The Lion King, everyone loved it when Timon and Pumba came out – they make everyone smile. Pops needed a wee so we missed this part of the show – it didn’t go on for very long.

Luckily we made it back for the finale, all the characters skated back on and stood at the edge waving goodbye.

The set, the costumes, the choreography, the music, the dancers, everything. It was a truly (excuse the cliche )magical evening.

It’s so easy to forget how amazing Disney is and the scope of stories they produce so it’s so nice to see them all in one place.

If you’re looking for something special to create memories with your little one or you’re just a big Disney fan I would definitely recommend it! For tickets head to Disneyonice.com
