Mandatory swim nappies for 4 year olds?

Pops has been potty trained in the day since she was just over 2 years old (despite the odd hiccup). I don’t feel comfortable putting her in a nappy. It’s confusing and unnecessary – she’s potty trained.

We just went to a pool where the age was four. FOUR! That’s crazy. By that age most children will be in school and should be potty trained.  I understand not all will be for a number of reasons and that’s different. How can it be fair to force a child (one who could have been dry two years by that age) to wear a nappy?

swim nappies for 4 year olds

The manager told me they had to close the pool three times last year for kids having accidents in the pool and since they upped the age to four they haven’t had to.

What if they do have to close because an over four year old has an accident? Will they up the age to five? I know kids that have have accidents older than four and even some adults (albeit after a few drinks haha)

Personally I feel it should be a case of;

Potty trained = no nappy.

Not potty trained = nappy.

Would people really lie about their kids being potty trained just to get out of wearing a nappy?

Pop’s is 3 and will tell me every time she needs to leave the pool for a wee and I don’t want to lose that by putting a nappy on her.

Do you think a 3/4 year mandatory swim nappy is necessary?

Until the next post,

Are and Pops.

    Hey you, I see your point totally but I also reckon the water, warmth and excitement may sometimes cause accidents? I remember going to swim lessons and getting in, questioning something in the pool (after dunking my head in!) and being told to get out because someone had had an ‘accident’. The class before us was full of older kids for their swim lessons, so I think accidents happen whatever the age, so maybe you’re right… To be fair an adult could poop in the pool if they were ill and they’re not gonna put nappies on adults, are they?!

      Its such a sensitive subject that I think they shouldn’t be so strict on the rules. I would love to see them question an adult on whether they had their swim nappy on though! haha

    My daughter did swimming lessons with a very well known swim school in a private pool until nearly 4 years and a swim nappy was compulsory for all lessons. She was potty trained at 2 years 8 months. Accidents could shut the pool for the hours if not the rest of the day and cost the school a lot of money. My local leisure centre doesn’t seem to have a policy on itthat I was seen, but my youngest is still in nappies
