Advent Day 21 – Christmas This or That – Theo plus Grace.

Each day of December we will have a new blogger telling us this or that. Check out Day 20 if you missed it. Today is day 21 and we have Cat from Theo plus Grace.

Hello there, my name is Cat. I curate the Instagram family visual blog, theoplusgrace and our written blog www.theoplusgrace.com I am thirty eight, a fashion tutor and Mama to T & G. I document our family life in Norfolk and we generally enjoy ourselves. Our blog could be about reviewing a new product, about T being cast as a camel in the Nativity or what I am reading in book club. Come follow us on Instagram.

Real or fake tree?

We have always had a fake tree. When I was a kid we had an 80s bottle brush tree, this year they are back as decorations I spotted them in Hobbycraft and had to buy 9 of them. Since buying a home of our own we have decorated a cactus each year and a yucca plant. Finally in 2012 when T was born we purchased our own fake tree and each img we add another mad decoration to it; this year its glittery dinosaurs.

Christmas pudding or chocolate log?

Chocolate Yule log, yes please! Yum. Christmas is not Christmas without the chocolate overkill. My used to try and make one most years and they would be interesting. Her versions never put me off. I make a good chocolate log. Now I am older I have found my tastes have changed and I am open to trying a Christmas pudding. Only 2 people like Christmas pudding on Christmas Day and that’s my Dad and my Husband.

Sprouts or no sprouts?

One of the first things my husband said to me when we met was “I’ll eat anything but not sprouts or Hummous.” He now eats both. I love sprouts. Maybe its from being a vegetarian since the age of 2 but I have to admit they are yum. I thinly slice them and do them with spring onions and butter in a pan over the hob. My mum boils them and I still offer to cut the x in the base.

Presents in morning or afternoon?

Oh this is contentious. My husband’s family always open theirs after Christmas dinner, that is in the afternoon. I don’t see the point as when will you play with anything? When I was a kid we always went downstairs and I sorted the piles of gifts while breakfast was made. We then opened some gifts and then staggered them during the day. Now we have T &G we do a lot of opening at 6am as that’s when the day starts. They have presents at our house and then gifts at my parents house too. So they have a bit of both.

Santa or Father Christmas?

Father Christmas! But T calls him Father Christmas and G calls him Santa. They then swap the names around. I read them “The night before Christmas” and they loved Saint Nicholas being mentioned.

Ginger bread or sugar cookies?

Gingerbread, it’s so tasty and the first taste that makes me think of Christmas and the holidays.

My children love making gingerbread Christmas shapes and decorating them with icing. We have made huge gingerbread houses and wee gingerbread people. Lots of icing holding it together in our house. Is it wrong to want to live in a gingerbread house for real?

Coloured lights or white lights?

When we bought our tree. I bought white lights. Beautiful and tasteful. They apparently were the wrong brightness and then Mr Theoplusgrace replaces them with multi-coloured lights. He says tastefulness and Christmas do not mix!

Angel or star on top of tree?

A star. It’s willow and was woven by a family friend. Our tree decorations were all made from air drying clay with woven bows and white lights and now it’s all been made brightly coloured. The kids love it so it’s fine but I do shake my head sometimes.

Hot chocolate or mulled wine?

Both? Can I have both? I love hot chocolate and is perfect when you are cold and tried.

One of the nicest mulled wines I had was at our wedding, tasted just like Christmas.

How will you be celebrating Christmas?

We have been going to My parents house for dinner for the last decade. We always go around at noonish. I always take something to make the day smoother or I offer to wash up or bring the dessert or the wine. It’s nice to see my sisters, my nephew and then spend the whole day with them.

We play games and do quizzes. Watch films. Eat vegetarian dinners. Mostly we have fun and we have trying to enjoyed.

Come back tomorrow for DAY 22 and see who our next blogger is!
