We get 18 summers.

We get 18 summers.

18 summers with our children before they become adults and potentially move out to create their own path. I’m hoping my kids are the kind that stick around a little longer… get jobs and contribute but just not leave me… those kind. Although I probably won’t feel like that in 18 years!

With Pops we have 14 summers left, that sounds like nothing. 14 more summers where we can create memories that will last a lifetime.

Here are 14 things I want to do in the next 14 summers:

Travel –

We love to travel and go on adventures but I hope to be able to give Pops (and baby R) so many opportunities to see the world.

Camping –

I don’t really enjoy camping but I know it’s something Pops would enjoy, even if it’s just in the back garden.

Learn to swim –

I can swim but I wouldn’t say I was confident in water. I’d love for Pops and Baby R to be more confident in water and be little swim babies. I’d love for them to be able to dive too!

Learn to ride a bike –

Such an iconic thing you imagine when having kids. The typical running after them and then letting go that you see in all the movies. I’m sure it won’t go as smoothly as it does in the movies but I’m excited to help her learn.

Learn to drive –

This is one that’s a bit away but I’m sure it’ll get her quicker then I think. I really wish I’d passed my test as soon as I was old enough. I hate how anxious driving makes me… plus then I’d get lifts everywhere!

Bake cakes –

A complete dream / reality experience with kids. It always ends up with me doing the brunt of the work and then Pops just enjoying the eating. I’d love to perfect a recipe and it be our family dish.

Play dolls –

Pops favourite thing to play and something I find quite tedious. I want to push myself to play more and just enjoy watching her be so creative and happy.

Have phone free days –

I spend way too much time on my phone and I hate it. It’s easy to say just don’t go on it but I think I’ve got an addiction.

Build sandcastles at the beach –

Proper sandcastles. Amazing ones with shells and little flags! Those ones you spend the whole day making only to have some little git come and jump on it or the tide come in and wash it away.

Sing and dance –

We love to mess around singing and dancing. It’s so much fun and a great way for myself to keep fit.

Mummy daughter dates –

Pops and I used to do this loads before she started school and it’s one of the things I miss most. I want to make sure we get some me and her time as well as time with Baby R too.

Stay up late –

Usually by bed time I’m so tired of parenting I need time to myself but as the days are longer I find myself wanting to stretch it out a bit more. Maybe a few later nights will result in later wake ups? We can always hope.

Movie marathon –

Popcorn and a whole bunch of films. Some we’ve seen and some that are new. I’m excited to watch Pops fall in love with more films.

Cuddles –

There’s never enough cuddles. Just taking time out of the day to relax and be with each other. No phones or other distractions.

How many summers do you have left and how do you plan to use them?

Until the next post,

Are and Pops.
